In covert hypnosis the hypnotist leads their hypnotic target into fully conscious trance states while the target has no idea it is happening.
It is most commonly thought of as conversational in nature but conversational hypnosis is only one method where trance can be induced in someone covertly, without them having any idea it has happened or is happening.
In conventional hypnosis, when someone is hypnotised it is usually very obvious. Not so when covert hypnosis is used. In fact the only way you can tell when covert hypnosis is used is by the affect it creates in the target.
There are 3 fundamental tools that are used in covert hypnosis. Pacing and Leading and Anchoring.
By skilfully pacing and leading, the covert hypnotist is creating a strong sense of rapport with the target by basically telling them what is going on in their experience as it is happening. In so doing the hypnotist creates an attitude of acceptance in the target, who will then follow the covert hypnotists suggestions wether they are happening now or not.
The covert hypnosis mechanism at work here is getting them to say "yes" a number of times before asking them to consider something that they might under other circumstances say "no" to.
As you look at this example notice the first few suggestions are aimed at expressing what is true in your experience now, while the last suggestion is something that may or may not be true now, but is where the hypnotist wants to take you.
Simply coming straight out with the suggestion to do a certain thing or feel a certain way, is not covert hypnosis, and is never as powerful, or effective, as pacing first and then leading.
By getting the target to agree with the statements you are making, and they must agree with you because what you are saying is true in their experience now, you increase the chances of them saying "yes" to something that perhaps isn't true in their experience now.
If you’re in sales for example, do you think covert hypnosis might be useful?
If you are looking for a totally covert hypnosis method that will get under everyone's radar, try co-ordinating your breath with the breath of your target.
By synchronising your breath with theirs, you can then gently lead them into another state by changing your breathing. If they follow the change in your breath rate, you have successfully paced and led them.
One of the real master keys of powerfully effective covert hypnosis is anchoring.
Anchoring is a stimulus-response mechanism created by the covert hypnotist, that allows them to re-create any emotional state within the target.
When this is done by someone skilled in covert hypnosis, the target will have no idea it has happened. They will just begin to feel differently, without knowing why.
For example, when talking with someone you can wait until they are feeling happy for example (laughing, smiling all the obvious signs) and then subtly touch your nose.
By continually applying the anchor whenever that person is in the desired emotional state, you make the trigger stronger and more reliable.
Covert hypnosis can be incredibly useful in all areas of your life.
As someone who intentionally utilises covert hypnosis in your interactions with people, you have taken what for many people are totally unconscious responses and have begun to use them consciously.
Far from being a technique for manipulation, covert hypnosis, can allow you to help people move from places of being stuck and in pain to almost instantly feeling better.
As a way of enhancing your ability to communicate with, and influence others, covert hypnosis has a very potent collection of techniques for you to consider. But do use them carefully in your covert hypnosis practice with due consideration of those you are using them on.
